The Massage Connection Anatomy and Physiology, Kalyani Premkumar (Author)

The Massage Connection:
Anatomy and Physiology
The Massage Connection Anatomy and Physiology. Kalyani Premkumar (Author). This is a very user–friendly text which is aimed specifically at students and teachers of massage therapy. Its main objective is to simplify the learning and teaching of anatomy and physiology by focussing on the more essential details of the subject matter. In the preface to the book the author expresses her view that massage practitioners are often frustrated with having to weed out irrelevant details from large heavy text books designed for the medical profession. Whilst the matter of deciding what is essential could well be debated the author does a wonderful job in presenting the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology with a clear and easy to follow layout. The reader is invited, by way of questions, to test his or her knowledge of common pathological conditions and to review their approach to the treatment. All in all the book is informative as well as stimulating and could well serve as a textbook or a useful guide to the subject of anatomy and physiology. I understand that as students, there isn't much choice as to what text you have to use. But for all the instructors out there, stay away from this text. There are literally hundreds of other A & P texts out there that may not be specifically targeted at MTs, but are simply far superior texts.

Clinical Anatomy (Eleventh Edition) - Harold Ellis

Clinical Anatomy
Clinical Anatomy (Eleventh Edition) - Harold Ellis. Clinical Anatomy has remained the word of the same author for nearly half a century. Initially written for clinical medical students on the wards, clinics and revising for Finals, since then it has sold all over the world in hundreds of thousands and in several languages. Its success has been its constant revision to ensure it covers the student’s needs. Today, it also covers the bulk of the anatomy required in the MRCS Part I, II, III and provides an excellent revision text for these candidates and medical students in a concise form with clear, easily reproduced diagrams. “This book is essential for clinical medicine, helps in both surgery and in clinics. It makes sense of anatomy taught at pre-clinical level and helps the reader apply their knowledge. Easy to read and clear diagrams to help your learning.” I think a lot of students struggle with anatomy but this book makes it very understandable. The illustrations are clear and colourful and not over-complicated. The clinical features make the book more interesting and relevant. I like the compact size of this book- good for carrying around and reading in a spare moment. As far as anatomy books go, this is one of the best I have ever read.

Atlas of Morphology and Functional Anatomy
 of the Brain
Atlas of Morphology and Functional Anatomy of the Brain. T. Scarabino (Editor), U. Salvolini (Editor), F. Di Salle (Contributor), H. Duvernoy (Contributor), P. Rabischong (Contributor). This dual atlas aims at illustrating the anatomy of the brain and its appearance on MR images using a simple and effective mode of presentation. Following an introductory chapter, "Comprehensive anatomy of the human brain", the book is divided into a morphological and a functional imaging section. The morphological atlas presents 3D surface images followed by high-definition MR sections acquired in the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. The MR images are paired with the corresponding anatomical images to enable their clinical correlation. The functional atlas includes illustrative MR images showing cortical activation in various functional areas (including the auditory, motor, visual, and language areas). "This book presents correlations between morphology and functional anatomy of the brain, as an atlas … . The authors have achieved a nice and clear synopsis of the actual knowledge and possibilities of functional imaging of the anatomy of the brain. This book will be an interesting basis for neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, physiologists interested in neurophysiology, but also psychiatrists … and it will also be useful for showing to the students the relevance of the anatomy of the central nervous system."
