Practical Occupational Medicine 2nd Edition (Hodder Arnold Publication)

Practical Occupational
Medicine
Practical Occupational Medicine (Hodder Arnold Publication) [Paperback] - Raymond M. Agius (Author), Anthony Seaton (Author). Practical Occupational Medicine is the first new UK general textbook of occupational medicine of this millennium. It is produced by two eminent leaders of occupational medicine in the UK. In these regards, it is long awaited and expectations are high. The second edition of Practical Occupational Medicine bridges the gap between day-to-day clinical practice, concerned primarily with diagnosis and treatment of disease, and occupational health practice which is concerned with the prevention of work-related disease and the management of ill health in relation to the workplace. All aspects of the clinicians' role are covered, from occupational history-taking through to rehabilitation and health promotion. Important changes in this new edition include an emphasis on key principles of good practice, enhanced international applicability and enhanced, more structured, presentation of information. In addition to general revision and updates throughout the text, the case histories have been revisited throughout, the section on disability and fitness for work has been thoroughly reworked and a new chapter on the delivery of occupational health care is included.

Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery: An Operative Guide - Karl A. LeBlanc

Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery
An Operative Guide
Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery: An Operative Guide (Arnold Publication) [Hardcover] - Karl A. LeBlanc (Editor). Repair of simple and complex abdominal hernias by the laparoscopic technique is now the method of choice in many centers. Laparoscopic repair offers equivalent outcomes to open repair, with the additional benefits of greater patient satisfaction and reduced hospitalization. For some hernias, notably incisional and hiatal, the outcome appears to be superior using the minimally invasive technique. This book, authored by an international team of leading surgeons in the field of hernia repair, gives a definite guide to appropriate patient selection and operative technique. The introductory section delivers a useful, illustrated account of instrumentation, biomaterials and mesh fixation. Subsequent sections provide detailed information about inguinal, incisional and hiatal herniorraphy, including four chapters devoted to the use of laparoscopy in the pediatric patient. Robotics and the socio-economic aspects of hernia surgery are also discussed.  Louisiana State Univ., New Orleans. Provides the principles and techniques for appropriate patient selection for abdominal hernias. Delivers a useful illustrated account of instrumentation, biomaterials, and mesh fixation. Discusses the use of laparoscopy in adult and pediatric patients. Also reviews relevant anatomy, and features numerous color illustrations.

Genetic Predisposition to Cancer 2nd Edition

Genetic Predisposition to Cancer
Genetic Predisposition to Cancer (Hodder Arnold Publication) [Hardcover] Rosalind A. Eeles (Author), Douglas F. Easton (Author), Bruce A. J. Ponder (Author), Charis Eng (Author). This is the second textbook in recent years to provide a comprehensive assessment of the evolving field of pediatric neuro-oncology. Before the publication of this book and Tumors of the Pediatric Central Nervous System (R.F. Keating, et al. Stuttgart, Germany: Thieme, 2001), there had not been an inclusive review of this topic since the early 1990s. In contrast to Tumors of the Pediatric Central Nervous System, whose editors reside in the United States (along with most of the authors), Brain and Spinal Tumors of Childhood is edited and largely authored by experts from outside the United States. For this reason, it offers a more international perspective on the field. The book is divided into six major sections. In addition to the anticipated chapters on the major neuro-oncologic diagnoses of childhood, there are sections on epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment planning, treatment techniques, late sequelae, and supportive care. Chapter 2, which gives a brief time line and pictorial presentation highlighting the historical basis of neuro-oncology, is unusual.

Diagnostic Lymph Node Pathology

Diagnostic Lymph Node Pathology
Diagnostic Lymph Node Pathology (Hodder Arnold Publication) [Hardcover] Dennis H. Wright (Author), Bruce J. Addis (Author), Anthony S.-Y. Leong (Author). "Diagnostic Lymph Node Pathology" is a comprehensive and generously illustrated guide, making it the ideal practical reference book. The international team of highly regarded haematopathologists write in an authoritative and accessible style with an emphasis on morphological evaluation as well as immunohistochemistry. The book clearly and logically presents the criteria for differential diagnosis with illustrations of both classical and less well-known features of each disease process. This will prove to be an essential guide for all surgical pathologists and haematopathologists involved in interpreting lymph node biopsies and will be an invaluable learning text for histopathologists in training. This book is a basic introductory book for beginning residents and maybe useful for some general pathologists. It lacks a lot of detail needed if you regularly interpret lymph node biopsies. It is definitely not a replacement for Ioachim's book. The picture quality is mediocre. It does provide good summaries of all of the most common major reactive and malignant conditions involving lymph nodes.
