Atlas of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology: Selections from the Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations

Atlas of Neuroanatomy and
Neurophysiology
Atlas of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology: Selections from the Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations. This selection of the art of Dr. Frank H. Netter on neuroanatomy and neurophysiology is drawn from the Atlas of Human Anatomy and Netter’s Atlas of Human Physiology. Viewing these pictures again prompts reflection on Dr. Netter’s work and his roles as physician and artist. Like most Netter illustrations, the pictures are beautiful. The index is much too sparse, which means that you sometimes have to spend time flipping through the book to find a diagram that you know is in there somewhere. This isn't quite as bad as it could be since the book is divided into sections which make it a little easier to track things down, but it can be frustrating at times. If you're REALLY serious about learning neuroanatomy, I recommend this as an adjunct to Duaine Haines' atlas of neuroanatomy. They complement one another well. The Haines' atlas lacks color and shows most things in slices, but it has real photos in it and MRI images as well, while the Netter atlas doesn't show as many structures as Haines' atlas does. The brainstem nuclei, for example, are much better represented in the Haines' atlas. However, what the Netter's atlas does show, it shows in a manner more conducive to conveying the three-dimensional anatomy.

The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics 32nd Edition

The Washington Manual of
Therapeutics 32nd
The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics 32nd Edition. Washington University School of Medicine (Author), Daniel H Cooper (Author), Andrew J Krainik (Author), Sam J Lubner (Author), Hilary EL Reno (Author). Established for over 40 years as the "bible" of the medical ward, The Washington Manual® of Medical Therapeutics is now in its Thirty-Second Edition and builds upon that proud tradition—with even more of the current information you need, delivered in a timesaving, quick-reference style. Its portability, comprehensiveness, and ease of access makes it a favorite on-call resource for housestaff and faculty around the world. Continuing the tradition of excellence, each chapter has been updated and reformatted for easier access to the information the reader needs. This edition is also available electronically for handheld computers. See Media listing for details. The Washington Manual® is a registered mark belonging to Washington University in St. Louis to which international legal protection applies. The mark is used in this publication by LWW under license from Washington University. This book is really useful and contains a great deal of information regarding everything an IM student/resident would like to know. It's very well written, clear and concise. It has a big drawback though: it is big and heavy enough for not being comfortably put in your pocket, since it is considered a pocket book.

Langman’s Medical Embryology 9th Edition - T. W. Sadler

Langman’s Medical Embryology
Langman’s Medical Embryology 9th Edition - T. W. Sadler. First published in 1963, this comprehensive text on embryology has long been respected for its scientific authority, pedagogy, and clinical relevance to medical education. Known for its outstanding illustrations and clear and concise writing, the text covers almost all aspects of embryology that would be of interest to medical students and their instructors. The Ninth Edition follows the organization of previous editions, first structured by chronology and then by system. New to this edition are 30 additional illustrations and clinical images, as well as a chapter on prenatal diagnosis and birth defects. Also included is Simbryo, an electronic supplement consisting of Flash animation showing the evolution of early embryonic development and different organ systems, as well as birth defects. The book has beautiful photographs which captivate the reader, and there are also nice clinical boxes which break up the text nicely and are also accompanied by photographs. At the end of each chapter are problem solving exercises for which answers are provided at the end of each chapter. This is the embryology textbook to buy. I wouldn't recommend any other. It will keep you company through medical school and beyond.
